TALLAPOOSA, GA – The City of Tallapoosa is preparing for record setting crowds to fill the streets of Tallapoosa, GA. Named one of the “16 Weird Things That We Drop To Ring In The New Year” by CNN, the Possum Drop is one of the largest and best New Year’s Eve Celebration events in Georgia. The Possum Drop is widely known for lowering a stuffed possum named Spencer from the one of the oldest buildings in town. Taxidermist Bud Jones, keeper of Spencer, says “People get all excited. They think the president has come to town, the way they’re taking pictures of it,”. The mounted Virginia possum that has become a backwoods New Year’s icon.
The Possum Drop will be a 2-Day event starting on Saturday, December 30th from 6PM-10PM and December 31st from 6PM-12:30PM. George Franco with Fox 5 News will be the 2018 Possum Drop host. The streets will be filled with vendors and activities for the kids. There will be live entertainment from On The Border-The Ultimate Eagles Tribute, South of Nashville, Elvis Tribute Artist-Eric Schneider, and more!
